Dead On at El Museo del Barrio

Upper Fifth Avenue isn't usually a party-going hotspot, but on Friday night the normally quiet strip got a dose of nightlife fever when the El Museo del Barrio's Young International Circle hosted a Día de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) event at the newly renovated museum.

Liliana Dominguez, Yaz Hernandez, Zani Gugelmann, Bibhu Mohapatra and Brian Reyes mingled in a tented bar and dance floor area, complete with orange banquettes, a special altar shrine with photos of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett and feathered and thonged Brazilian dancers.

Christian Cota got into the evening's theme, donning a dress from his line and glittery eye makeup. "Every time I smile, I worry one of them is going to come off," he said of his carefully applied facial jewels, adding, "This must be what a woman with Botox feels like."

Tinsley Mortimer was just sorry she had to miss much of the later revelry, thanks to a downtown commitment.

"I'm so early for a Latin party!" she lamented as she left an hour after the 9 pm start time. "I'll have to come back up at 1."
